National Pest Management Association (NPMA)
For over 30 years April has been known as the National Pest Management Month. Professional pest control companies are recognized for their role in protecting residential and commercial properties from pest threats and protecting food and public health.
During National Pest Management month the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) encourages residential and commercial property owners to be aware and take control of pests that may be on the properties. Give your local Pest Control company a call to help. They are an essential part of our communities that provide the vital task of pest removal and control.
The NPMA is a non-profit organization established in 1933. There are over 7,000 members. They are committed to supporting the pest control industry. Missy Henriksen, Vice President of Public Affairs for the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) states, “Many people may not realize the important job pest professionals perform every day. Whether it’s salvaging a termite ravaged home, giving someone back the ability to sleep after eliminating a bed bug infestation or ensuring food warehouses and restaurants are free of disease-carrying pests, we are grateful for all that these men and women do every day,”
With summer just around the corner, many pests may be lurking in your home or on your property. Take steps now to prevent pest infestations before they occur. Below we list a few pests for you to be aware of.
Ants
Spring and Summer are prime times for ants to invade and are the number one nuisance pest in the USA. They are also the most difficult to control.
Termites
You may not realize the termites cause more than five billion in property damage in one year. Spring is the season homeowners need to be on the lookout. Swarmers (winged termites) are a warning sign that a colony may already be in existence on your property.
Bed Bugs
Bed bugs found in residences, hotels, schools, college dorms and beyond continues to rise. With summer travel approaching the NPMA reminds people to be vigilant and watch out for bedbugs. As part of National Pest Management month, the NPMA has launched Bed Bug Awareness Week from April 22 – 28th.
Cockroaches, Mosquitos, Stinging Insects
All three of these pests cause a health threat to humans. The allergens from cockroaches are known to trigger asthma attacks. Mosquitos can carry the West Nile virus. Approximately one out of fifty people infected develop a serious sometimes fatal illness. Stinging insects send more than a half million individuals to the emergency room every year.
